Loures Municipality inaugurates the Children's Playground that lights up when children move
Inauguration of a very special recreational area for children, in Loures
02 May. 2022
On the morning of April 29th, the Municipality of Loures proceeded to the opening of a playground under the scope of "PAB_LivingLab - Vive a Decarbonização do Parque Adão Barata", a project funded by the EEA Grants Environment Program, whose goal is the adoption of sustainable lifestyles.
The decarbonization of society and the consequent independence from fossil fuels is one of the strategies defined in the Roadmap to Carbon Neutrality 2050, included in the European Ecological Pact.
The inauguration of the children's playground, within the context of the project, contributes to its viability since it is equipment that, through the use of renewable energy, promotes learning how power works, constituting an innovative solution for local climate neutrality and, simultaneously, for the education of the community. Its infrastructure was designed so that this equipment is illuminated through kinetic light (light originating from the energy of movement) and absorbs sunlight during the day so that it can shine at night, providing a few hours of "magical" play to the little ones. "See how your movement can generate light," reads the site on canvas, on which it adds that "this park generates smiles and energy."
The new space was inaugurated by the Mayor of Loures, Ricardo Leão, with the presence of AIDGLOBAL's Project Manager, Ana Lua Ross. It was promptly opened by a group of children from the Cultural and Social Center of Santo António dos Cavaleiros.
The Mayor said that this "is the first park of its kind in the country and that should fill us with pride" and stressed that Loures wants to integrate "a lot of environmentally friendly counties", asserting itself as "a municipality of reference" in this area.
The Mayor of Loures also informed the audience about some of the measures that are intended to be implemented soon in this green space: the installation of solar panels on the Palace of the Marquises of Praia and Monforte, as well as the installation of a system that will allow a "complete X-ray" of this building, and the monitoring of its consumption and maintenance needs, remotely and in real-time.
The Mayor also revealed that he intends to install a sensor system in the parking space, allowing drivers to know which slots are available at each moment. Ricardo Leão also advanced that the Adão Barata Park will become "a pilot center for new technological projects, in a circular economy logic".
PAB_LivingLab – Vive a descarbonização no Parque Adão Barata is a project that runs from May 1, 2021, to April 30, 2024, funded by the EEA Grants Environment Program, has as its promoter AIDGLOBAL - Action and Integration for Global Development -, and as partners the Municipality of Loures, Instituto Superior Tecnico of Lisbon, bim +, dstsolar and Innovation Point.
