The state of play regarding the implementation of the first activities planned in the context of the project, financial issues associated with it and the definition of the image that will represent it were some of the themes under analysis during the meeting.

In the afternoon of July 13th, the first visit of the partner entities to Parque Adão Barata, in Loures, was carried out, where the project PAB_Living_LAB – Experiences the decarbonization in Parque Adão Barata is being developed. The face-to-face presentation of each of the team members marked the beginning of the meeting in what was the chosen space for the implementation of innovative technological solutions with an impact, namely in reducing the carbon intensity of the services and activities taking place in the Park.

This is one of the project's objectives, together with the promotion of energy efficiency, smooth mobility and community involvement in building a more sustainable urban environment, which takes into account the needs of the present, without jeopardizing the responsiveness of generations to come.

The meeting held on July 13th focused on concerting the levels of action between the partner entities involved and on determining the actions necessary to carry out one of the projects, which seeks to promote water efficiency through the installation of a new irrigation system, which includes a power system that uses water from a well, a photovoltaic system for pumping water and also humidity sensors for intelligent irrigation. The installation of drinking fountains, the creation of training actions on water efficiency and the preparation of a plan for sustainable waste management are among some of the activities planned, until the end of the year, and which will be conducted by the Municipality of Loures and by Innovation Point, two of the partner entities of PAB_LivingLab.

Within the scope of the meeting, there was also space for consultation between partners regarding the Living Lab (living laboratory), namely with regard to the implementation of the sensing infrastructure and information panels, which outline the first steps towards the fulfillment of the goals established, in the project, to achieve sustainable mobility.

The financial issues and those that were intrinsically linked to the image that will represent the project punctuated the end of the meeting, which also proved to be important at the time of promoting closer ties between the various entities involved and the (re)cognition of the place from which it is believed to be possible to promote sustainable urban development, on a local and global scale, in an attitude of respect for the needs and rights of present and future generations.

PAB_LivingLab – Experiencing decarbonization in Parque Adão Barata is a project that runs from May 1, 2021 to April 30, 2024, financed by the Environment Program of the EEA Grants, whose promoting entity is AIDGLOBAL – Action and Integration for Global Development – , and as partners the Municipality of Loures, the Instituto Superior Técnico of the University of Lisbon, bim+, dstsolar and Innovation Point.
