Adão Barata Park, in Loures, has a new Sustainable Waste Management Plan
21 Feb. 2022
The project “PAB_LivingLab – Vive a Decarbonização no Parque Adão Barata”, financed by the EEA Grants, launches a Sustainable Waste Management Plan (PGSR). It aims to improve the current waste collection system at Parque Adão Barata (PAB) by installing containers to deposit waste oil, corks, batteries and books.
The PGSR allows waste management at the source, the reduction of waste and the removal of costs associated with the management and cleaning of the enclosure, the integration of materials that can be reused and the control and reduction of environmental impacts under the legal requirements, while keeping the space green and clean.
The document is structured in three major sections. The first provides a brief overview of the importance of green spaces, the events in urban green areas, and the needed features to be sustainable. The second section presents a brief contextualization of the objectives of the Plan and its relationship with the PAB_LivingLab project. Finally, the third section is dedicated to the approach of Waste Management, starting from its legal framework and passing through the discrimination of the various categories of waste and how it should be collected and transported. Moreover, this section highlights how sustainable waste management should be carried out before, during and after the events, and the need to invest in a set of good practices based on the principle of the 3R's: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.
The general objectives of the Plan, available for consultation here, are: raise awareness and inform about the best environmental solutions and practices; guide those responsible for activities in the park and its users; promote more sustainable waste management, reducing waste; reducing the costs associated with the management and cleaning of the enclosure; control and reduce the environmental impacts of the park, per legal requirements and raising the awareness of citizens who visit the park about the best environmental solutions and practices.
